Description
For delegates who don’t possess the full Level 7 Strategic Incident Command Award and can’t access the full revalidation award.
To revalidate incident commanders operating at Level 4 who do not have a full SFJ Level 7 Award in Strategic Incident Command in Fire and Rescue Services qualification.
At the end of the course, the delegate will be able to
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the National Co-Ordination and Advisory Framework document (NCAF).
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the central Government’s Concept of Operations (CONOPS) document.
3. Establish liaison with key personnel in own service and other agencies that may contribute to achieving strategic objectives.
4. Undertake a situational evaluation to review the implications of exercising strategic command during an incident where multiple tactical commanders are operating, including approving tactical plans and prioritising resource needs.
5. Assume command of the incident and work in coordination with strategic representatives of other agencies to maximise the effectiveness of the response.
6. Analyse the factors involved in setting and reviewing the strategy to develop a strategic plan to support the incident, including measures to mitigate risk to the community, environment and the fire and rescue service business continuity.
7. Use advice and support from appropriate technical and professional sources.
8. Engage media resources in conjunction with other agencies to inform and protect the community.
9. Modify planned actions in response to emerging needs and the impact of the incident.
10. Manage the liaison with other agencies using the JESIP Joint Doctrine principles to develop a Common Operating
Picture (COP).
11. Ensure that the JESIP Joint Decision-Making process is used for significant inter-agency decisions.
12. Use the IIMARCH document to brief the F&RS representative attending SCG.
13. Provide constructive feedback in a debrief.

1-2 Delegates
Incident Commanders who do not hold the SfJ Strategic Incident command qualification but operate at Level 4 and require formal revalidation.
Delegates will undertake a written assessment, taught input from a qualified tutor and a practical scenario simulation assessment. Delegates will produce an e-portfolio of evidence of competence.

Cancellations due to delegate non-attendance or other foreseeable business activity disruption(i.e. operational requirements or industrial action) are subject to the following charges;
(i) less than seven days full cost of the course is due.
(ii) 8-14 days 50% of the course cost (to cover pre-booked tutor hotels, loss of business payment to sessional tutors, student awarding body registrations and other associated costs).
(iii) Over 14 days, no charge.
